Three-year, $750,000 commitment will connect 105 high school seniors with paid internships and professional development
The Rocket Community Fund is proud to announce the renewal of our partnership with Urban Alliance (UA), recommitting $750,000 over the next three years to support the Urban Alliance High School Internship Program. This investment will provide 105 Detroit high school seniors with paid internships and comprehensive personal and professional development programming designed to prepare them for lifelong economic success.
Building on a Foundation of Success
Our partnership with Urban Alliance represents one of the Rocket Community Fund’s most impactful investments in strengthening pathways to employment through quality education and job training opportunities. Since bringing UA’s flagship program to Detroit in 2018, we’ve witnessed firsthand how this proven program transforms lives by providing Detroit’s next generation of talent with the work experience, support, and training they need to thrive.
The results speak for themselves: 100% of UA students graduate high school, and more than 90% gain acceptance to college. These outcomes reflect over two decades of UA’s commitment to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for young people who might otherwise lack access to professional networks and workplace experiences. “Economic mobility and opportunity aren’t accidental. They are designed. Exposure to real workplaces, real mentors, and real expectations expands what young people believe is possible because you can’t be what you can’t see,” said Marvin Logan, Director of Education and Employment at Rocket Community Fund. “Our partnership with Urban Alliance reflects a shared commitment to empowering youth to aspire, work, and succeed. We’re helping that pathway feel accessible, navigable, and built for maximum exposure. This is how we help more Detroit students find home in their early career journeys and ownership in their futures.”
Rocket’s Shared Vision for Building Career Opportunities
From the program’s inception in Detroit, the Rock Family of Companies has served as the anchor employer for UA interns. In the 2018 pilot year, Rocket employed 30 of the 40 participating students, providing them with meaningful work experiences across our organization. This hands-on approach not only benefits the students directly placed with us but also demonstrates to other major employers in the region the value and impact of investing in Detroit’s young talent.
Our role as anchor employer has helped pave the way for other local companies to participate, expanding opportunities for students throughout the program. By opening our doors and integrating UA interns into real workplace environments, we’re helping build the next generation of Detroit’s workforce.
What Success Looks Like
Over the next three years, we’re committed to achieving measurable outcomes that will ensure this investment creates lasting change:
- Connect up to 105 seniors to paid internships across a diverse range of placement sites throughout Detroit
- Ensure 85% of program completers demonstrate skill growth between their baseline and final assessments, tracking real professional development
- Maintain 75% retention through program completion, ensuring students receive the full benefit of year-long engagement
These metrics reflect our commitment to not just funding programs, but to ensuring they deliver real, measurable results for the young people we serve.
More Than a Job: A Year of Transformation
The UA High School Internship Program goes far beyond simply placing students in internships. Participants receive a full year of wraparound support, including professional skills training, mentorship, and personal development programming. This comprehensive approach ensures that students don’t just complete an internship—they build confidence, develop workplace competencies, and gain the tools they need to navigate their futures with purpose. For Rocket team members, it’s also a chance at mentorship which builds leadership skills.
Investing in Detroit’s Future
We believe that everyone deserves access to opportunities that unlock their potential. Our renewed partnership with Urban Alliance reflects our ongoing commitment to creating pathways to economic self-sufficiency for Detroit’s youth. By connecting students with real-world work experiences and the support to succeed, we’re not just investing in individual lives—we’re investing in the future prosperity of our entire community.
We’re excited to continue this partnership and look forward to celebrating the achievements of the next 105 students who will benefit from this program over the coming years.
